Release the day before sleep

Evening Prayer for Sleep

Close the day with a brief Catholic examination of conscience: give thanks, ask forgiveness and entrust the night to Jesus Christ. You can pray these original words or choose Compline, the Church’s Night Prayer; neither promises immediate sleep.

Scripture

Proverbs 3:24

Proverbs describes the security of a life guided by wisdom; its picture of restful sleep is not a medical guarantee.

A paraphrase for reflection, not a verbatim Bible quotation.

Pray slowly

Evening Prayer for Sleep

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Father, I release this day into Your hands. I give You the conversations I keep replaying, the work left unfinished, and the questions I cannot answer tonight.

Quiet my thoughts, relax my body, and replace fear with the assurance that You are near. Protect my home and the people I love through the night.

Prepare me to wake with renewed faith and strength. I trust tomorrow to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

An original prayer for personal use, not a liturgical text.

A practice for today

Carry the prayer into your next choice.

Give thanks for a gift, examine one encounter and ask forgiveness. Plan a concrete act of repair or sacramental confession where needed. Then set your phone aside while preserving access needed for care and safety.

Turn this pause into a daily rhythm.

Pray Shield places Scripture and a short prayer between the impulse to open a distracting app and the choice that follows.
