A prayer pause that explains itself

The redesigned App Pause now shows its state, the apps, categories and websites included, and what happens next in one clear view. When a selected distraction is paused, Pray Shield opens a 15-second moment with Scripture and a short prayer. Afterwards, you choose consciously whether to continue or put the phone down.

The pause is not a punishment and it is not designed to make useful technology feel guilty. It is a gentle threshold: long enough to notice why you reached for the screen, short enough to fit ordinary life. The new progress and status language makes the current period easier to read at a glance.

Apps and websites in one private selection

Version 3.0 brings website blocking into the same flow as apps and categories. You can add a domain directly, review the list, and remove it again with familiar iOS controls. This is useful when the habit lives in Safari rather than in a dedicated app.

Pray Shield uses Apple Screen Time for the protected selection. The app does not need to display the names of chosen apps, and the website list stays on your device. Start with the two or three places where you most often lose your intention; a focused boundary is usually more sustainable than blocking everything.

A daily rhythm, not another streak to defend

Four prayer anchors can give the day a recognizable shape: morning, midday, evening and night. They can reapply the App Pause at moments you choose, so one intentional opening does not quietly become an all-day exception. The rhythm view connects those anchors with completed prayers, Bible reading and reflection.

The new seven-day view is deliberately descriptive rather than judgmental. It shows how often you prayed, how much time you made for prayer, and on which days you returned to Scripture or reflection. Tap a day to understand it; there is no demand to manufacture a perfect streak.

Bible reading and the verse of the day feel closer

Bible reading has been refined for calmer scanning and faster return to your place. Verses can be marked by tapping without making the text jump around, and sharing stays available without taking over the reading surface. The Bible follows the selected app language where a suitable licensed or public-domain edition is available.

A verse-of-the-day widget brings the current passage to the Home Screen. Inside the app, seasonal background choices range from quiet forest scenes to brighter spring and summer light, while contrast adapts so the verse remains readable.

More natural on iPhone and iPad, now in Portuguese

The main flows have been reworked for different screen sizes instead of merely stretching the iPhone layout. Cards, sheets, navigation and reading widths now make better use of iPad space while keeping the same calm visual language. The interface also responds more gracefully to compact and expanded widths, preparing it for the shapes Apple devices may take next.

Pray Shield 3.0 adds complete Portuguese experiences for Brazil and Portugal, with wording adapted to each region rather than copied from one variant. The corresponding Bible, onboarding, settings, App Pause and supporting screens follow the selected language.

How to begin with 3.0

Choose one distracting app or site, keep the four suggested prayer moments for a few days, and let the pause stay simple. When it appears, read the verse, pray honestly, and make one decision. You do not need to redesign your entire digital life on the first day.

Pray Shield 3.0 is available as a free update on the App Store. Existing choices remain on the device, and you can revisit apps, websites, prayer times, appearance and widgets from Settings whenever your season changes.

  • Update Pray Shield from the App Store.
  • Review your selected apps, categories and websites.
  • Add the verse-of-the-day widget if you want Scripture on your Home Screen.
  • Use the seven-day rhythm as information, not as a score.
