Choose Focus for people and alerts

Use Focus when the interruption is an incoming notification, a caller, or a predictable context such as work, sleep, driving, or study. Configure allowed people and apps yourself, then test the exception. Pray Shield does not manage your Focus allowed callers, so do not expect it to decide who can reach you.

Focus is not an app-opening limit. If you turn off every alert and immediately open the same feed, the main problem is elsewhere. Keep Focus for communication and add a narrower tool only when your observation supports it.

Choose App Limits for a daily allowance

Use Screen Time App Limits when you want a defined amount of time for a category or named app. This fits social media, games, shopping, or news that is available at some times but expands beyond the amount you chose. Review the report first so the allowance is grounded in your actual day.

Use website restrictions when the habit lives in a browser rather than an installed app. Apple’s controls are specific, and their exact behavior depends on iOS version and configuration. Do not promise universal filtering across every browser or service.

Choose Downtime for a scheduled quiet period

Use Downtime when you want a recurring window in which most apps are unavailable, while your selected exceptions remain available. This can fit bedtime, a shared meal, or a Sabbath-like period. Check the exceptions before the first occurrence and tell household members how to reach you.

Downtime is broad, so it can be the wrong tool for a single feed or short prayer moment. If you only need a five-minute transition, a focused Pray Shield pause may be more proportionate than closing the whole phone.

Ask three questions before combining tools: Who must reach me? What exactly should be limited? What do I want to practice instead? If the answers are one caller, one website, and a two-minute prayer, the smallest stack is clearer than a full-phone shutdown. If the answers change on weekends, make a separate schedule rather than forcing one rule everywhere.

Choose Pray Shield for the meaning of the pause

Use Pray Shield when the missing step is not merely silence but a deliberate turn toward God. Search a passage, read offline, use a reflection, follow guided prayer, listen to nature sounds, or keep a rhythm widget visible. Trial eligibility and pricing are shown before purchase; there is no fixed-price promise.

A sensible stack can be small: Focus keeps one caller available, Screen Time limits one named site, and Pray Shield supplies the prayer practice. Review the stack after a week. Keep only what is clear, reversible, and truthful about what each tool can do.

Do not purchase a feature to solve an undefined problem. The trial, if you are eligible, and the current price are shown before purchase. Availability can differ by device or region. Start with the free system control that matches the problem, then choose Pray Shield for the devotional practice you actually want to keep.
